Honest calls on racking
Racking is engineered structure, and OSHA 1910.176 puts safe material storage on the employer. So we draw a hard line: footplates, anchors, and hardware get repaired; buckled load bearing columns get flagged for replacement, because no field weld can be certified against the manufacturer's load tables. A welding contractor who will weld anything is a liability in a warehouse. We would rather lose a column repair than sign you up for a collapse.
Typical jobs and ranges
Dock and warehouse steel runs $350 to $1,100 on our rate table, with working height and after hours scheduling as the main movers. Recurring damage, the same bollard flattened monthly, usually means a layout problem; we will point it out, and sometimes the right fix is a heavier guard fabricated once rather than the same repair forever. Yard trailers and fleet trucks tie into the trailer and fleet service on the same visit.
Warehouse questions
A forklift hit a rack upright. Weld it or replace it?
It depends on the damage and the load rating. A torn footplate or a sheared anchor is repairable. A buckled column carrying rated pallet loads usually is not, because the repair cannot be certified against the manufacturer load tables. We look, we tell you which one you have, and we only weld what can be defended.
Can you work overnight so the operation keeps running?
Most of our warehouse work happens on night and weekend windows for exactly that reason. After hours time is published at 1.5 times standard rate, and we coordinate hot work permits and fire watch with your safety lead before the shift.
What dock repairs are welding jobs?
Cracked dock plate hinges and lips, torn bumper brackets, curb angles, broken door tracks and guide brackets, and flattened bollards. Leveler hydraulics belong to a dock equipment vendor; the steel around them belongs to us.
Do you handle safety railing and mezzanine steel?
Yes: damaged guard rail, kick plate, mezzanine stair treads and gate hardware. Employer obligations for keeping storage and handling areas safe come from OSHA 1910.176, and fixing bent protective steel promptly is the cheap end of complying with it.
